USITT 2016 Brings Backstage Industry to Salt Lake City

USITT’s 2016 Annual Conference & Stage Expo comes to Salt Lake City March 16-19, bringing some 5,000 members of the production industry and turning the Salt Palace Convention Center into a spectacle of the latest in lights, projection, costumes, props, sound and special effects from fog to flying.
 
USITT 2016 planned highlights include 250-plus workshops, presentations, demonstrations, and celebrations of work by top stage designers and technicians, including Tony-winning lighting designer Jennifer Tipton, internationally acclaimed sound designer John Leonard, and Broadway scenic designers Anna Louizos and Donyale Werle, to name just a few.
 
Keynote Speaker Tupac Martir, a world-renowned visual artist, will open the show with an immersive presentation that will illuminate his creative process and showcase the tools he uses in his lighting, scenic, and multimedia designs. Martir will stay for the entire show to present, participate, and share his work with attendees.
 
Stage Expo will feature 280 exhibitors of the latest tools, resources, and products for creating the in best live entertainment, including over 30 new and returning exhibitors this year. Dozens of universities come to recruit grad students and theatre companies to recruit designers and technicians. 
 
USITT 2016 also will host the first practical exams for USITT Essential Skills for the Entertainment Technician (eSET) program, a basic skills certificate program for young professionals, as well as the popular Tech Olympics. The Conference also offers opportunities to experience the growing metropolis that is Salt Lake City, building in a night off on Thursday to explore its many eateries and cultural attractions, and moving the Closing Night party on Saturday to Salt Lake’s hottest new nightclub, Sky.
