2022 Costume Design Sub-commission Meeting in Mexico City

Jun 16, 2022

IN MEXICO CITY, THE COSTUME DESIGN SUB-COMMISSION HAD ITS FIRST IN-PERSON MEETING, AFTER TWO YEARS OF COVID BREAK!

After two years of online meetings during a world pandemic, the Costume Design Sub-commission realized the first OISTAT in-person meeting in collaboration with the Mexican Costume Designers Association “Vestuario a Escena” at Centro Nacional de las Artes (CENART), in Mexico City, from 7 to 13 May 2022.

The Mexican Costume Association leadership opening the “Vestuario para la Escena 2022” exhibition, on the 11th of May 2022.

The program included an exhibition with international and Mexican costume designers, a three-day symposium with lectures, roundtable discussions, masterclasses, presentations, workshops and live performances.

During the business meeting, the Sub-commission leadership presented the idea of creating a better branding for the rich and often large-scale activities the Costume Sub-commission constantly delivers on their annual meetings under the event title: World Costume in Action (WCiA). The brand name World Costume in Action (WCiA) was presented to the OISTAT EC in November 2019 in Oslo, but only now formally discussed and confirmed by the Sub-Commission members. The proposal was approved by all members, who unanimously agreed with the idea to consider this Mexican event as the first World Costume in Action (WCiA) and to maintain this brand title when organizing international encounters with this kind of wide program.

We are currently working on the business meeting minutes and on preparing a more detailed report about this unique event.
