Call for Panelists|COLOURING THE LIGHT: Decolonizing Lighting and Diversifying the Stage

Mar 8, 2022

The teaching and design practices of lighting design in theatre has been dominated by the Eurocentric and American approaches. The academic contents, as well as the lighting design industry, have been overly dominated by the white male. Academic publications, digital content, and other public domains are dominated by the English language. Lighting Design as a creative and technical medium has been ‘colonized’ over the past hundred years. There is more than ever a need to open, instigate or even push a debate to diversify this creative medium in practice, approach, and appreciation.

The international community of teachers, practitioners, thinkers, students, technologists, critics, and audiences, that interacts and intersects with theatre, performance, performance art, and any other medium of ‘live entertainment’ is invited to send a 250-word abstract that reflects their research, observations, practices, experiments of lighting that is other than the dominant and standard.

Please apply with your abstract here: https://worldstagedesign.submittable.com/submit/219238/wsd-2022-call-for-panelists-colouring-the-light-decolonizing-lighting-and-di
