Call for WSD 2022 & Scenofest Volunteers

World Stage Design 2022 is seeking volunteers who are passionate, enthusiastic, motivated, and have an interest in theatre and performance. Volunteers will play a vital role in making WSD 2022 a dynamic and successful event for all in attendance. Previous experience in any related aspect of technical theatre or design will be considered an asset.

World Stage Design is an extraordinary international festival that includes exhibitions, performances, workshops, and lectures by professional designers and will provide attendees and participants with an outstanding opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in theatrical design and performance. WSD takes place every four years, and the events are attended by enthusiastic theatrical practitioners, architects, technicians, educators, students, and theatregoers from across the globe.

WSD 2022 is determined to create a brilliant volunteer experience that will add to your skills. We can work with your school to provide a letter of attestation for earning credit towards your education. All volunteers will be responsible for the costs and documentation needed for their travel and stay related to WSD 2022 in Calgary, Alberta. This includes, but is not limited to, Visa application, airfare and other transportation, accommodation expenses, travel and medical insurance. A recommended list of affordable accommodations, including shared Campus accommodation and youth hostels will be provided. All volunteers will be offered the OISTAT student member rate for their registration of $60 CAD per person and will receive meal vouchers.

International volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to apply. The full description of the volunteer positions is available below.

Description of positions
 

1.    Exhibition Team: Volunteers will assist 160 international designers in setting up and taking down their exhibitions and will be responsible for daily maintenance of the exhibition including technical support, ticket taking, and other duties as assigned.

2.    Scenofest Production Team: Volunteers will host the international performance groups and assist production teams with setting up technical equipment, running performances, taking down the sets and equipment at the end of their performances, and other duties as assigned. This team involves a variety of performance settings from contemporary theatres, outdoor performances, puppetry, Virtual Reality performances and more!

3.    Administration Team: Volunteers will provide support for the information desk personnel, help with sharing information and answering questions, provide support for the lectures, workshops, and other events, and assist with archival photography. Some social media marketing, such as posting on WSD pages, will also be needed. Knowledge of more than one language will be considered a strong asset for this team.
 

Time required

Volunteer shifts will be 4 to 6 hours per day.
A rotating shift schedule will be arranged according to your availability, skills, and work experience.
 

Dates

August 1 to 18, 2022.
There will also be the opportunity for longer term volunteer positions from July 5 to August 18, 2022, or August 1 to August 25, 2022.
