Old Theatre Tricks Using New Materials

Under the invitation of USITT, Ivo Kersmaekers (Belgium), Chair of OISTAT Technology Commission, gave a presentation of “Old Theatre Tricks Using New Materials: Pepper’s Ghost, Used in Modern Productions” at the Annual Conference of USITT. Ivo first introduced the origin and basic optical principles of Pepper’s Ghost, and then demonstrated modern applications of the “old trick” on stage. He also revealed how the musical productions of “K3” and “Deans” employed the apparatuses of video projections and Mirror & Projection Foils /Giant Glass Screen to create the illusions that add much more dimensions on stage.
