Introduction
About the Forum

In the coming 5 years, from the north to the south of Taiwan, there will be numerous world-class performing arts centers established, marking a great evolution on the infrastructure of theatre venues in Taiwan. However, the key for the enhancement of performing arts lies also in the professional development of those who working in the field. As the operation of these theatre venues will influence greatly the overall development of performing art and culture in Taiwan, OISTAT, with the support of CCA, thus organized the 2011 International Summit Forum on the New Era of Theatre to focus on this issue and form ideas.

By inviting the international theatre experts specialized on the organizational operation and the training of theatre professionals, together with the Taiwanese theatre professionals, this forum consists of a series of keynote speeches and panel discussions on the following subjects: trends in governance and management of theatres/performing arts venues, the professional development for the theatre mangers/creative talents and international arts festival as a vehicle for integration of resources. It provides a great opportunity to build up networking and facilitate the future exchange and cooperation among the theatre –related organizations from around the world.

OISTAT —International Organisation of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians is a worldwide organization established in Prague in 1968. OISTAT maintains Official Relation with UNESCO by affiliation with ITI and OISTAT has always been an important platform of international exchange for the theatre artists from around the world. With the support of Council for Cultural Affairs, Taiwan, the OISTAT Headquarters has been relocated to Taipei since 2006. Ever since, the OISTAT Headquarters has been dedicated itself to enhance the international networking and facilitate cross-cultural cooperation among OISTAT members. The ‘2011 International Summit Forum’ invites international expert together with Taiwanese theatre professionals to share experiences and exchange ideas on the governance of performing arts venues and the development of theatre professionals, as well as promote the international networking in the age of globalization.


About the Keynote Speakers
It is a great pleasure to have John Faulkner (UK), International Cultural Consultant, David Dower (USA), and Associate Artistic Director of Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater, and David Fishel (Australia), Director of Positive Solutions, as the keynote speakers of the forum. They will address lectures on the topics of operation policy of performing arts venue, the integration of arts resources, and the professional development for the creative talents, the technical and administrative managers. In addition, the members of OISTAT with specialties as theatre manager, curator of arts festival, theatre architect and scenographer, production manager, technical consultant and theatre educator, as well as the senior Taiwanese theatre professionals are also invited to the forum to share their valued experiences and perspectives with the participants.
