OISTAT President recently gave keynote address and conference presentations in international events

In OISTAT’s continuing effort to establish working relationship with sister organizations around the world Michael Ramsaur, president of OISTAT, has been conducting Master Classes and recruiting for OISTAT.  This April he gave a Master Class in Lighting Design for ASEAN, the Association of South East Asian Nations.  The Workshop was held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in Manila.  Support personal from the CCP and the Philippine OISTAT Center were invaluable to the workshop. Participants included Mohammad Radzuan Bin Haji Bakkar from the Culture and Arts Section of the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport, Brunei Darussalam; Nhem Phary and Chheang Chhordapheak from the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, Cambodia; Wahdat from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Indonesia; Phetkeo Chittaphone from the Ministry of Information and Culture, Laos; Ahmad Tarmizi Muhamad from Istana Budaya, Malaysia; Thant Sinn from the Ministry of Culture, Myanmar; Dexter Jumalon from Liceo de Cagayan University, Phillippines; Nasyitah Tan Wah Ling from the Ministry of Education, Singapore; and Virun Thongsukkang from the Northeastern National Theatre of Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand.  Michael has great hopes that representatives from some of these countries will become involved with OISTAT

In May, Michael gave one of the four Keynote presentations at the Technology Forum and Conference organized by the China Entertainment Technology Association (CETA) and he also gave presentations at the at the Professional Audio Lighting and Music (PALM) EXPO both in Beijing.  As part of his talks on the topic of the development of new technology and technical theatre training he used many examples from OISTAT Scenofest activities and presented the opportunities of the Scenofest ‘11 as opportunities not only for technical training, but also for international collaboration. He also used many examples of life long learning programs initiated by OISTAT members in their home countries.

In early June Michael gave a Master Class on Color in Light for TTT (Theater Technical Training in) Scandinavia, an organization established by Swedish OISTAT member Richart Bauer to provide life long learning in theatre design and technology in the Scandinavian Countries. Participants represented Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.  Michael also gave a presentation to the ScandLicht Conference, an organization of Scandinavian Lighting Designers that was organized by Swedish OISTAT member Anders Larsson. During a visit to the new Danish Playhouse in Copenhagen, he had the opportunity to meet with Jasper Koungshaug who is in the process of establishing a Danish OISTAT Center. All of OISTAT looks forward to Denmark rejoining the OISTAT family.
