Welcome to the Costume Working Group

The Costume Working Group falls within the Scenography Commission of OISTAT. The huge job of disseminating information has prompted the members of the Costume Working Group to create resources on a website. It is an ongoing resource for all. This website resources are the culmination of many years of work from several countries. Thank you for your interest in sharing in our diversity. We have had a few very successful collaborations:

  • In the Philippines with the ASEAN Weavers Guild, we held a symposium culminating in a "Costume Workshop with Indigenous fabrics of the Philippines". You can see the creations under the "Minutes" section of the website.
  • At PQ 2003 many enjoyed our "Found Object" Theatrical Fashion Show, which was a lively event in the Heart of the PQ with the help of the Sound Design Working Group and the Lighting Design Working Group. Teams comprised of students and professional costume designs from different countries worked together to create these costumes. You can see the results on the website.
  • In Cuba in July 2005 we held a "Carnival Costume Symposium". You can read about these various activities as well as others on our website.

Sarah Nash Gates (USA) and Maija Pekkanen (Finland) founded the Costume Working Group in 1996.
The current head of the Groupis Laura Crow (USA).
