Theatre Architecture Competition(TAC)

Theatre Architecture Competition (TAC) is an international competition organized by the OISTAT Architecture Commission. It has taken place every four years since 1978 with the objective to encourage new ideas about theatre architecture and interdisciplinary cooperation. The best entries are exhibited at the Prague Quadrennial (PQ), the major international exhibition of scenography and theatre architecture, and published in a catalogue that documents contemporary theatre architecture.

In 2003, the competition attracted 258 entries from 38 different countries. In 2007, the competition posed a design problem for a new performance building with approximately 500 seats and to encourage a detailed exploration of this building type and the way in which it responds to a particular set of needs. It attracted 159 entries form 28 countries. A total of 44 entries, including 12 award-winning pieces, were selected to exhibit at the 2007 Prague Quadrennial and were included in the 7th OISTAT Theatre Architecture Competition 2007 catalogue. The 8th edition was held in 2011 at Prague Quadrennial. More information can be found at OISTAT Architecture website.

The 9th OISTAT Theatre Architecture Competition was launched in October 2014. Selected entries of TAC were exhibited and cash prizes awarded at the Stage|Set|Scenery in June 2015 in Berlin, Germany.
